Each sky texture has two maps, one with and one without a sun. End User Tips

Each sky texture has two maps, one with and one without a sun. The texture values should be set to 100% on the colour or luminosity channels and have zero diffuse shading so that normal scene lighting will not effect the skydome object and texture. The polygons of the skydome should be facing inward toward your scene, so that the texture is visible. The dome should be sized larger than your scene space. A skydome object in .3ds format is included with the pack for use if you don't already have one. Textures will need to be apllied to it as above in your own software.
If you want to use your own light instead of the sun image in the map it is recommended that you first texture the dome with the sky image of your choice that includes the sun. You will then be able to line up your light to match the sun in the image, and once in place you can swap this image for the one that has no sun, and use your scene light to act as the sun according to your own preferences.

Forest Pack is a package of plugins for 3D Studio Max and 3D Studio Viz, designed to give a complete solution for creation of vast surfaces of trees and plants. There are other plugins that allow you to create beautiful trees (with thousands of faces), but only Forest enables you to create a complete forest with thousands of trees using only a fraction of the resources.

Some of its features:

Forest is a parametric and animatable object, optimized for speed. It can create more than 500,000 trees per second, modify any parameter and rebuild them in real-time.

Trees are created from an editable geometry list, that may contain textured planar objects or custom meshes.

Forest uses splines to define the areas to plant the trees. You can use multiple splines to define areas of inclusion and exclusion.

The distribution of trees is managed with bitmaps. You can create custom distribution patterns, from lines or very regular groups to fully random surfaces. The plugin includes some sample distribution maps but it will also accept user created maps.

Forest can be linked to a camera, so that all billboard trees will be facing perpendicular to the camera. This solves the problem of seeing planar objects from different angles when the camera moves past them.

To minimize resource utilization, tree distribution can be restricted to the camera's field of view. This enables the user to create a fly by of a forest of virtually millions of trees, without wasting scene resources on trees that are out outside the edge of the frame.

Automatic distribution of trees over any surface (irregular terrains, etc.)

You can limit the elements in a surface by ranges of altitude and slope.

Random transformation of position, rotation and scale.

Custom level-of-detail allows for faster redraw in the viewports. You can set different levels for viewports and render.

You can use the XShadow plugin for opacity mapped shadow casting on tree objects. Forest supports raytraced shadows as well.

You can also use Forest as a generic and enhanced scatter (no trees after all).

The plugins included in Forest Pack are: Forest, XShadow, Forest Tools and Forest Material

CG Academy Intermediate Rigging 1 - FK Spine, Leg & Foot Rig:
In this DVD Paul will take you through rigging the Ogre's Spine using an FK system in conjunction with wired control objects. He then demonstrates how to create an inverse foot rig using reactor controllers and scripted custom attributes to facilitate a smooth foot-roll system. Finally we learn how to modify the leg bones using expression controllers to create a working leg stretch system.

CG Academy Intermediate Rigging 2 - Spline IK, ARM & Hand Rig:
In this DVD Paul continues his Ogre rig with a second approach to producing a spine rig using a custom Spline IK solution. He then moves on to producing an arm rig that demonstrates two unique methods for an arm bone twist solution. Finally Paul demonstrates how to rig a hand and produce a comprehensive GUI for it using custom attributes and MAXScript.

CG Academy Intermediate Rigging 3- Skin Techniques:
In this DVD Paul deals with many of the aspects of skinning a character using 3dsmax's Skin modifier. Starting with weighting via envelopes Paul then moves on to build on this foundation with weight painting and blending. Further control is then added via muscle bones, skin deformers and springs for dynamic flexing of the Ogre's stomach.

CG Academy Intermediate Rigging 4 - Facial Rigging Techniques:
In this final DVD in Paul Neale's Intermediate Rigging Series , Paul looks at two completely different ways to setup the Ogre's facial animation rig. In the first half of the DVD we look at the eye rigs dilation and directional controls, and then move on to a morph centric system that only uses a bone for jaw movement. In the second half of the DVD we look at a bone based system that allows for very fine an intuitive control over the Ogre's features. A six hour plus DVD, jam packed with insights and a must buy for any budding or professional rigging TD.
